Autistic/Aspie Self-Improvement & Advocacy Support Group: Key Principles: Due to too many Autistics/Aspies coming to Mentorship and Self-Advocacy Support Group meetings for the sole purpose of finding a social club and/or a boyfriend/girlfriend, I was forced to go to extreme lengths to make it clear that the purpose of the meeting is self-improvement and was not to be used as a social club or dating service. That includes giving facilitators the option of imposing extreme rules forbidding such activities, not because I’m opposed to Autistic/Aspie socialization and dating, but because I believe in the intent of the meeting and its format to improve the quality of life of the individuals that will work the program. The problem comes when so many people looking for a social club or dating service are there hijacking the meeting to the point that its impossible for those who want self-improvement to get their needs met.
